MOSSEL BAY BUSINESS NEWS - The Mossel Bay Business Chamber is rearing to explore new horizons during the coming year.
Two highly energetic new members joined the ranks of the existing committee of the chamber at the AGM on Tuesday, 9 April.
Lorette Grobbelaar of Oliver Tyres and Denise Lloyd from Seesig Motors were elected to serve on the board.
Dr Paul Kruger was re-elected as chairman and says the committee is thrilled to welcome the two new members. The board's other office bearers are deputy chair Nico Marais, and treasurer Kelly Fourie-Barnard.
The chamber has an array of interesting projects planned for the year, including one or more business conferences and the analysis of business trends in the town.
According to the annual chairman's report the chamber held 10 networking sessions, each of which was attended by about 60 people.
Kruger also mentioned the highly successful gala awards evening at Jakkalsvlei, where the top Mossel Bay businesses were rewarded.
The chamber strives to assist all the members as well as potential members that approach it. At this stage the paid-up members constitute 124. The numbers annually fluctuate between 120 and 160.
However, Kruger believes that since the chamber now has its own office and an official, René Malan, who works a half day, the membership numbers will escalate. Within the first month of Malan holding the position, 13 new members had been signed up.
The chamber also believes it should plough back into the community. At the annual golf day money was collected which was donated to the police to buy equipment to counteract the huge drug problem in the town.
Kruger thanked the media for the extensive coverage on the chamber activities and invited the public to visit the office in the annexe of the Mossel Bay tourism office. The office is open from 08:00 until 13:00 weekdays and Malan can be contacted on 064 803 3303.
The members of the committee are: Paul Kruger, Fanus Truter, Nico Marais, Werner Kock, Marika Thomatos, Albert Wiffen and Kelly Fourie-Barnard.
