BUSINESS NEWS - With an exquisite collection of more than 70 artworks, ranging from swirling galaxies and underwater wonderlands to the dust-covered face of an elephant seeking refuge from the heat, Mossel Bay artist Elke van Eeden offers viewers of her work true visual delights.
Drawing not only the eye, but the mind, each artwork allows the viewer to fully delve deeply into the piece before them, fully enveloping them in the wonder of the work.
With Art by Elke's idyllic studio situated on 19th Avenue, the home of Van Eeden and her husband Evert, the artist welcomes art lovers to view her wide range of works of various themes.
Abstract galaxies, wildlife pieces, underwater scenes, and landscapes, Van Eeden's skill as a talented painter spans many decades, exploring various techniques and many different subjects.
Born in Germany, Van Eeden made South Africa her home decades ago, with qualifications as a cordon bleu chef and a career as a manager of safari lodges in Mozambique and Malawi before owning her own lodge on the banks of the the Olifants River in Limpopo, in the greater Kruger National Park.
Her experiences of the wildlife and landscapes of her surroundings served as inspiration for many of her paintings even before 2021, when Elke and Evert embarked on a 16-month adventure, travelling across South Africa.
The couple settled in Hermanus for just under a year before deciding on Mossel Bay as their permanent home.
A member of the South African Society for Artists and Mossel Bay Visual Arts Community, Elke has dedicated herself to her craft in her new environment, especially with the beautiful Mossel Bay coastline serving as an inspiration for her work.
On 23 November, Elke will host a private exhibition of her artworks, where invited guests can view and purchase any of the pieces on show.
Elke said there will be a lucky draw for one of her paintings, as well as an auction and that 10% of all sales made on the evening will go towards funding emerging Mossel Bay artists.
Elke is available for commissions and for her art to be shown in galleries in and around the Garden Route.
