Families were left homeless after a fire destroyed nine homes in an informal settlement off Calitzdorp Street, KwaNonqaba. The fire is believed to have been caused by a short circuit due to illegal electricity connections. Photographs were taken at the scene, as community members tried to rebuild the structures using starter kits supplied by the Mossel Bay Municipality. The municipality also provided photographs showing damage to infrastructure, as well as the electric cables and extension chords removed and confiscated after clamping down on illegal connections. A photograph included shows the correct assembly of a supplied starter kit.
