GREAT BRAK RIVER NEWS - The Great Brak River Youth Café, in association with Wonderful SA, hosted its first poetry day last week.
Artists such as Lluyle Arendse, a local poet and spoken word artist from Friemersheim, participated in this event.
Claudius Frans, also a local writer, released a book titled Ons Liefde and took time to inspire the young writers during the get together.
Community members participated during the event by reading their own poems, which had the audience in awe.
Elodiaan de Bruin, who is one of the EPWP interns, assisted Renay Robertson in hosting the event, which turned out to be a great success. The young writers left the Youth Café feeling inspired and challenged to take their writing skills to the next level.
Other participants included Diago Treurnicht (EPWP) and Hailey Fortuin (EPWP) and there were poems by Elodiaan de Bruin.
Established writers, such as Ben October and Chillie Bruintjies, from Mossel Bay shared information on how the writers could improve their work and some helpful tips on the industry.
"The event was a great start to forming a new culture. We are looking forward to follow-up training in the next quarter and those that are interested will see an advert on our facebook page or visit the Youth Café for more information," says Maximus Makoko from the Youth Café.
Budding and also accomplished writers together at the first poetry reading at the Youth Café.
