Therefore she wants to learn as much as she can.
Her very successful career in dance is the result of her absolute passion and commitment to be the best she can be. Focus, determination and self discipline are all major lifestyle choices that she makes every day in order to achieve the fitness level required by her profession.
She literally dances for at least seven hours everyday and goes to gym on a Sunday after church. Her diet has to be perfect, she drinks a lot of water and leads a 'clean' lifestyle in order to have a perfectly toned body.
Leanka took part in the Annual World Championship of the Performing Arts hosted in Los Angeles this July. This event is seen as the Olympics of the performing arts with contestants from more than forty countries taking part.
Agents, managers, casting directors and record label representatives are invited to judge and conduct seminars, whilst scouting for talent during the event. Medals are given to participants in each category.
Leanka entered for four solo performances in the dance categories – open, lyrical, jazz and musical character, age group 18–24 as well as in two modelling categories – swim wear and formalwear.
She won one gold medal and four bronze medals as well as the Champion of the World Division award for her performance in the musical character category, where she performed a part in the musical Cats which was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
She also won a three month scholarship with the Millenium Dance Complex in Los Angeles, the hottest dance studio and home of the stars' choreographers.
Dancing with superstars and being choreographed by hip-hop expert Tina Landon, are personal achievements Leanka is very proud of. The mere opportunity to be able to attend master classes with choreographers that work with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, has raised her commitment to work even harder to achieve her goals.
Her dream is to establish a fitness and wellness empire where students can study and perform. Her next big moment will be when she attends the casting for a part in the new Cirque de Soleil show in October.
She was invited to audition and is very excited about this opportunity. She will also attend an international talent search at Montecasino in Johannesburg during October. Closer to home, she will participate in the Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo pageant hosted at the Garden Route Casino in September.
After six years on intensive training, Leanka is doing her final exam in November to obtain her degree.
Leanka is grateful towards so many people in her life that has helped her and given her the opportunity to dance. Her parents, Leon and Karen have been her biggest fans ever since she started to dance. Her mentor is definitely Christelle Smith who has trained and coached her for the past six years.
She has chosen to live and breathe dance and to help her steer clear of all the negativity that surrounds a career in the entertainment industry, she has to work very hard not only physically but emotionally.
This quality makes of her not only a star performer, but a strong woman who can face life's battles and an inspiration to her young students as she shows them what can be achieved through hard work and determination.
