MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A ball was had in all respects at the ReedValley Charity Winter Ball last Friday, 4 August.
The event, although in its fourth year, was hosted in aid of the newly-founded ReedValley Foundation for the first time.
This foundation was established to raise funds for the education of local youngsters and it has partnered with the Mossel Bay Advertiser's Oliver Twist community outreach project.
With the focus firmly being on charity starting at home, the funds raised at the ball will be used to assist learners in the farming community around ReedValley. Apart from a delicious three-course meal served, ReedValley's exclusive export wines were a total hit, along with soothing piano sounds.
Artist Riëtte Delport, known as Rut, donated a stunning painting with the title, You have more strength than you know, to go on auction. For the men, an innovative Baardasyn chair was up for grabs. A limited edition 3l magnum-sized ReedValley Shiraz fetched a good price on auction and so did a weekend break at the Boardwalk Lodge.
According to ReedValley Wines co-owner Lynette Whittaker, just less than R40 000 was raised at this black-tie event. "We are compiling a database of the needs among the children in our farming community in order to find the best way to invest the funds raised."
