MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Garden Route-based Carpe Musicam! Orchestra members started their 2022 concert schedule in a grand way on Sunday, 30 January.
The stunning Laminin Agora venue in which they performed added to the ambience and accommodated an enthusiastic audience which outnumbered the 45 performers by at least five to one.
"It was wonderful to enjoy entertaining a large body of music lovers for the first time in nearly two years," said orchestra manager Elsabe Barkhuizen.
The selection of music was varied and displayed the orchestra's versatility in handling various styles of music, from Baroque to symphonic pop and just about everything in between.
Especially noteworthy was orchestra leader Cherith Bain's violin solo interpretation of Carlos Gardel's Por Una Cabeza, which was performed with passion and tenderness.
Conductor, Norman Carless, announced the formation of a new wing of Carpe Musicam! - Carpe Musicam!Kidz and Totz (for two to six year olds) – the brain-child of flautist/piccolist, Lezanne Strydom.
This addition to the growing Carpe Musicam! family, along with the youth group classes means that children can now start music education at two years of age and continue with CM! for the rest of their life if they wish.
Carpe Musicam! is looking forward to its next performance at Laminin Agora on 13 March.
The concert will be Viennese Delights, a potpourri of favourite – and less well-known – Viennese music. Among the latter category will be orchestral variations on the Carnival of Venice, by Johann Strauss senior, a capriccio for piano and orchestra based on Voices of Spring.
