Their mission is to empower youths living in marginalized communities through surfing in the Southern Cape of South Africa.
In order to continue and expand the Non-Profit activities, spreading the love of surfing amongst those who cannot otherwise afford it, we've organised a fund-raising event, featuring legendary musicians Piet Botha and the Akkedis Band.
Piet Botha is a South African musical legend. His first professional gig was as an acoustic duo in 1974.
Piet Botha is the son of the former South African Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pik Botha. Piet Botha was one of the first musicians inducted into the SA Rock Hall Of Fame in January 2002. On 6 May 2006 Piet Botha was awarded a South African Music Awards Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to South African music.
He was also awarded a Prestige Award by the Federation of Afrikaans Culture Associations in September 2006 for his contribution to the Afrikaans language.
Piet Botha also shares his birth date with the late Nelson Mandela on 18 July. The fund-raiser will take place at The Barn outside Mossel Bay, on the 26 September.
All proceeds from this event will go toward supporting The Surfer Kids Non-Profit organisation.
Tickets are on sale for R100 and can be bought online at www.thebarns.co.za.
