RUGBY NEWS - Nineteen rugby players from Infantry School were recently selected for the South African National Defence Force Rugby Association (SANDFRA) team.
The South African National Defence Force Rugby Association held their Services rugby week in Cape Town a week ago where the SA Army rugby team competed against the SA Navy and SA Airforce teams.
The SA Army team won both their matches. Upon completion of the rugby week, a squad was selected to represent the SANDFRA from 20 until 28 July 2022 to play against WP u.21 team.
The women's team will compete against a team from Brackenfell. The team will also play against other state departments later during the year. Corporal Ricardo Jantjies from Infantry School, also affectionately known as " spoed se baas" amongst his fellow players, was named the best overall player.
Staff Sergeant Irvan van Wyk, who was appointed as the director of SANDFRA, said that this group of players will form the core of the squad as their experience will be vital for the upcoming games.
He said that these players have worked very hard and have made many sacrifices in the last few months to work their way into the squad and their selection is just a reward for those efforts.
