MOSSEL BAY SPORT NEWS - At the Western Province Weightlifting Championships on 12 October at Eden Fitness in Mossel Bay, 8 new South African records were set.

The championships were held together with the RSA Coastal Weightlifting Championships.

Jon-Antohein Phillips broke three new junior records in the 67kg category as well as one new senior Clean and Jerk record in the same weight category.

Ruben Burger broke three new senior records in the 96kg group. He also won the award for the best male lifter of the RSA Coastal Weightlifting Championships and the Male Champion of Champions award for the WP Senior Weightlifting Championships.

Burger mastered the Snatch 135kg and Clean and Jerk 165kg with a total of 300kg.

Johanni Taljaard broke the female Snatch record in the 64kg category with 87kg. She also won the Best Female Lifter award in the RSA Coastal Weightlifting Championships and the Female Champion of Champions award in the WP Senior Weightlifting Championships.
