42 boxers take part in tourney

MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A boxing tournament with 21 fights and 42 boxers was held on Saturday, 16 September, at the Barcelona Hall, KwaNonqaba, Mossel Bay.

The event was hosted by Ikhaya Community Development Sport and Recreational Organisation in partnership with the Piet Julies AIDS action group.

The tournament forms part of the 2023 Mossel Bay Sport and Recreation festival.

A training session was held on Saturday, 9 September, for judges and referees under the auspices of the South African National Boxing Organisation (SANABO).

Andrew Phokeng, the president of SANABO, facilitated the training and on Saturday, during the tournament, he monitored the 14 new boxing officials' work.

The tournament was organised to celebrate Heritage Month.
