ATHLETICS NEWS - Athletics South Africa has named seasoned labour lawyer and sports administrator, Jay Reddy as the Administrator for KZN Athletics (KZNA).
Reddy comes with a wealth of experience in the administration of sports and is a presently a
national executive member of Futsal. He begins his work in the KZNA office today (Monday 6
November).
The Administrator will remain in office until further notice pending investigations into possible irregularities relating to the affairs of KZNA. The appointment of the Administrator follows the suspension of the Board of KZNA, which was detailed in the notice sent to all Board Members of KZNA on 16 November 2018 in accordance to Article 7 read with Article 21.7 of the ASA Constitution.
Working with the staff of KZNA, the Administrator will ensure the smooth operation of activities related to athletes, coaches, clubs and all stakeholders The Administrator must primarily establish, inter-alia, why the KZNA Board brought ASA into disrepute, if they acted individually or collectively and if they acted with a mandate from the KZNA Council.
Furthermore, the Administrator must determine why the KZNA Board deliberately withheld
critical information from ASA to enable ASA to establish if KZNA practiced good governance or not and why the KZNA Board applied financial resources in the manner in which they did, e.g. to frequently challenge ASA in a court of law rather than use the ASA Constitution to resolve issues with ASA.
ASA also takes note of the desperate attempts to cause confusion about the suspension through a communique sent out to all KZNA members dated 23 November 2018. It is hamefully misleading and must be readily dismissed as such. ASA further views this as a possible attempt to intimidate Council Members of the province. The alleged signatory of the said communique, Sello Mokoena together with the whole Board of KZNA, remain suspended and no longer represent the affairs of KZNA.
ASA calls upon the staff of KZNA, member clubs, athletes, coaches and all stakeholders that during the period of suspension, to work closely with the ASA-appointed Administrator in order to make sure that the execution of their respective mandates in KZNA are not interrupted.
