Shortly thereafter, he went to Birkenhead Flats 316, where Const Evelyn Pienaar, the mother of his children, lives and an argument followed, according to Southern Cape Police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie.
Capt Pojie said Pienaar was shot and wounded, together with her six-year-old daughter, her mother Maria Oosthuizen and a visiting friend, Renette Karelse. He also shot at a policeman on the scene, Wo Karelse, but missed.
Bootram then took his own life as he was leaving the flat. He died at the scene.
Const Pienaar and the other victims were taken to the Life Bay View Hospital for treatment, where, it is believed, the child and the other two women are in a stable condition. Mrs Oosthuizen was taken to the George Provincial Hospital. Pienaar sustained several bullet wounds to her upper body and legs.
Police opened an inquest docket and are investigating four charges of attempted murder.
