Polar Bear Swim: Next stop, Great Brak's Suiderkruis Beach

MOSSEL BAY NEWS - With the Polar Bear Swims in George and Mossel Bay completed, it is time for Great Brak River to host it tomorrow, 25 July.

George’s leg of the swim was done at Victoria Bay last Saturday, 18 July, and the following day, 22 swimmers gathered at Santos Beach to brave the icy waters to raise funds for a good cause.

The swim in Great Brak will be held at Suiderkruis Beach at 12:00.

Event organiser Felix Burri said this year, they are encouraging businesses to participate and use the fundraiser as a team-building event. And for those who don’t feel like a frosty swim, watching from the beach and supporting the swimmers and the causes is perfectly fine too.

This year, the funds raised for these icy cold plunges will go to Search and Rescue South Africa (Sarza) and Johenco Tehuis in Sutherland, Northern Cape.

While the swim originated in the Free State 30 years ago, this is only the third instalment of it in the Garden Route, and the first for Great Brak River.
