GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Garden Route and Overberg districts may experience possible heavy rainfall this weekend. This is according to a notice issued by the South African Weather Service (Saws) today, 6 February, valid until Sunday 8 February.
"We are expecting a steep upper-air trough on Saturday, which is expected to become a cut-off low pressure system on Sunday," reads the notice.
This may bring potentially significant rainfall over parts of the Garden Route and Overberg districts.
However, Saws also says weather prediction models are showing contrasting amounts of rainfall in these regions.
Some indicate significant amounts of rain from Saturday until Sunday, while others are predicting less rainfall.
"We are monitoring the system, and if the updated models come into agreement, appropriate warnings will be issued for these areas over the weekend," says Saws.
The Mossel Bay Municipality has advised residents to stay alert for further updates, avoid crossing flooded roads and low-lying areas and prepare for possible localised flooding.
