LOCAL NEWS - Fancourt Hotel and Golf Resort has warned its team about an active scam in which a fraudster is impersonating Fancourt executives via a WhatsApp account to target contractors with fake job offers in exchange for airtime vouchers.
The scammer has been successful in scamming several contractors to date.
In an internal notice distributed to Fancourt staff, Human Resources Manager Vesta Booysen detailed the scam.
The message, which Booysen forwarded to Group Editors requesting that we share it with our publications' readers, states that a scammer is sending WhatsApp messages while pretending to be either Nick Soloman or Leroy Ferreira.
“The scam targets contractors by offering them work at Fancourt in exchange for airtime vouchers,” the letter reads. “Contractors are asked to meet at the main gate and hand over the vouchers, or in some cases, to send the voucher numbers to a cellphone number.”
Booysen emphasised that legitimate Fancourt representatives will never request airtime vouchers or any form of payment in exchange for employment opportunities.
“Please be vigilant. Neither Nick Soloman nor Leroy Ferreira will ever ask for airtime vouchers or any form of payment in exchange for work at Fancourt,” the notice states.
“If you receive a message of this nature, please verify it directly with us or through Fancourt before taking any action.”
The estate has reported the matter to the South African Police Service (SAPS) and is taking further steps to address it.
