MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Arts Association's next concert is on Thursday, 27 June, at 19:00 in the Dias Museum.
Well-known local musicians, Louise Van Wyk-Visser and Olive Sandilands will present Flute Favourites.
It is a compilation of popular Baroque, Classical, Romantic and modern pieces. The programme includes Telemann, Handel, Rutter, Gossec, Widor and Bolling.
Van Wyk-Visser (Van Wyk) obtained her BMus degree in 2004 at Stellenbosch University with flute as the main subject under the late Eva Tamassy. While teaching at Rhenish Girls' High School she obtained her Performer's Licentiate in Music (UNISA) in 2007 as well as her PGCE in 2008. She is currently the full-time head of music at Point High School. Louise and Olive have been performing together since 1997.
Sandilands (Coetzee) was born in Durban and spent her school years in Potchefstroom.
There she took piano lessons from Anna Raubenheimer and Professor Hennie Coetzee as well as Adolph Hallis.
She obtained a B-Mus (Hons) from the University of Pretoria, cum laude, while studying piano under Ella Fourie in 1987. She continued her piano studies with Professor Lamar Crowson at the College of Music in Cape Town. During this time she performed Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.
She has performed as an accompanist and chamber musician with various singers and instrumentalists, such as Zanta Hofmeyr, The Klemeyer Trio, Leonard Heydenrych, Sandra Nel, Jeanne-Louise Moolman, Melané Hofmeyer-Burger, Zanne Stapelberg, Heleen Du Plessis, Lente Louw, Susan Mouton and Miro Chakaryan as well as the world-renowned flutist, Susan Milan.
In 2014 she accompanied the South African tenor Johan Botha at a benefit concert in Vienna, Austria.
She has also performed with well-known Afrikaans singers Jannie du Toit and Koos van der Merwe.

The doors open at 18:00 and the concert begins at 19:00.
