MOSSEL BAY NEWS - In line with a severe weather forecast yesterday, strong wind wreaked havoc in the greater Mossel Bay after it started blowing just before 03:00 this morning, 30 June.
Wind speed up to 108 kilometres per hour has been reported. Damage to property have been widely reported from Dana Bay to Great Brak River.
Several of these reports include damage to roofs with the worst of it families being left homeless.
The Mossel Bay Municipality in a statement this morning said that it is too early for a detailed estimate.
There were indications of driveway gates of private homes that were damaged and ended up in the roadway. In addition, reports were filed of damage to trees and branches blocking roads in some places.
The municipality thanked members of the respective neighourhood watch groups who have worked hard to assist residents where necessary.
Motorists driving to work are cautioned to be mindful of debris on the road surface. Municipal emergency services standby teams have been deployed and are currently assisting, where necessary.
