MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A visitor to Mossel Bay is horrified at the amount of plastic she found on local beaches over seven weeks.
Angelique Roerink, from Johannesburg, told the Mossel Bay Advertiser she was here on holiday and had walked on a number of beaches.
"Each day I take a plastic bag with me and pick up bottle tops."
Angelique sent the Advertiser a photograph showing the number of bottle tops she had collected in the seven weeks.
She also provided a photograph of plastic earbuds and sucker sticks she picked up during a one-kilometre walk - 1 319 of them.
"This is shocking," she exclaimed.
Angelique said she had come to Mossel Bay to look for property and had bought a plot here.
She felt it was necessary to alert the public about the amount of plastic on the beaches and encourage residents to pick up the plastic.
Angelique said she was taking the plastic to a recycling point.
Mossel Bay residents are reminded that they can put plastic such as this into the blue plastic bags for recycling, which are delivered door to door by the Mossel Bay Municipality.
