MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Former Mossel Bay mayor, Marie Ferreira said this week she is recovering steadily after being bitten by a snake, but, she added, she is still not as strong as she would like to be.
Ferreira was bitten by a Cape cobra at her Hartenbos home on Boxing Day, 26 December 2019.
She was rushed to Life Bay View Private Hospital in Mossel Bay, where anti-venom was administered.
When the Mossel Bay Advertiser interviewed her in hospital on 6 January, the site of the snakebite - her foot - was still extremely swollen.
"It takes time for the poison to leave the body," Ferreira said at the time.
She was only discharged from hospital a few weeks later.
On Monday 10 February, Ferreira said her foot was still swollen.
She said she was walking with a stick when she needed to and that she was unable to negotiate difficult terrain or many stairs: "I'm walking easily without a stick now, but I do use it when necessary."
The mayor looked her usual self this week in a dove's egg blue blouse, exactly matching her large eyes, and her hair coiffed prettily.
