MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Local lad Dan Jooste, a former learner of Milkwood and Park Primary schools before he completed high school in Paarl, was part of the Junior Boks that made South African fans smile with their excellent results achieved on their blitz tour of the United Kindom.
Dan is in the Junior Boks World Cup Squad to play in France at the end of May.
This year has been a great one for Dan after a difficult previous season, reports his father, David.
After completing his year course at the Western Province Rugby Institute in January, he joined the FNB Young Guns side at Stellenbosch University, where he is registered to study a B Agric at Elsenburg. In April he played in the final of the tournament against Pukke.
In this match, where he was named FNB Player that Rocks, he scored four tries, three from mauls and one individual effort, to take his side to a 34-32 victory. This was also the first time Stellenbosch University Young Guns had ever won the trophy.
While at the Young Guns, Dan got a call-up to the Junior Springboks second training camp and was ultimately selected to join the Bokkies tour to the United Kingdom to play three internationals, one each against Scotland, Wales and England.
After beating Scotland 41-3 and Wales 41-5, they took on England's U20 team for a tough match in Birmingham, eventually winning 27-12 to make it an unbeaten tour.
Back in South Africa, the squad has a two-week preparation period before they leave for France later this month to vie for the Junior World Cup in Perpignan, France.
"Apart from his focus on playing rugby Dan is committed to serving his community and will be offering a series of free rugby fitness and skills clinics to Mossel Bay high school players during the off-season. Further details will be announced in due course," says David.
