HARTENBOS NEWS - A strongman and powerlifting competition turned heads at the Hartenbos Seefront on Saturday 10 October.
The event formed part of the Mossel Bay Sport and Recreation Festival and attracted one of the biggest crowds of the past three or four events, according to organiser Shane Jensen.
“It was a very nice competition - fantastic weather, good feedback and the people were very impressed,” he said.
The competition featured several categories, including maximum deadlift, bench press, a sandbag medley and a truck pull, which proved a crowd favourite.
Among the day’s impressive performances was that of well-known local athlete Shaun Boshoff (17), who deadlifted an incredible 290kg, breaking the All Africa junior U18 deadlift record by 5kg. Shaun is also the reigning junior South Africa’s Strongest Man champion.
Wiaan le Grange from George recorded a remarkable 300kg deadlift and a 190kg bench press, earning him the title of overall best lifter of the day.
