MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The trial of a head pastor, Fostino Jacobs (60) accused of raping a 20-year-old woman, will continue in the Mossel Bay Regional Court today.
It is expected the victim will start her testimony in camera today.
Yesterday, the first day of trial, the court granted her permission to testify from inside the mediator's room as the State told the court the victim did not want to face Jacobs while testifying.
A social worker testified that the victim suffered from panic attacks because of the alleged ordeal and described her as shy.
The suspect, 60-year-old Fostino Jacobs, from the Lighthouse Assembly of God church in Mossel Bay, has pleaded not guilty on eight charges of rape.
In cases of sexual nature, the name of the accused may be published once the accused has pleaded.
Jacobs was arrested in October 2023 and released on bail.
Mossel Bay Advertiser contacted the church for comment on the case but has not yet received comment.
If it is received, the comment will be added to the next update by the Advertiser on this case.
The victim alleges that Jacobs raped her on several occasions in 2021, including inside the church in Mossel Bay.
