Mgwelana was found dead in his home in Mfuleni Street, KwaNonqaba, on the morning of 8 November, and Baliso’s body was found with stab wounds to her neck and arms in her home in Bantom Street later that same morning.
Nsodolo is facing a charge of murder and a second charge of murder related to domestic violence.
The courtroom was filled with Baliso and Mgwelana’s families and friends, as well as some community leaders and activists.
The court heard that Nsodolo intends to apply for bail, and that the State intends to oppose it. The matter was postponed to 19 November for the formal bail application. Nsodolo will remain in police custody until his next appearance.
The Southern Cape Police’s spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, previously told Mossel Bay Advertiser that the motive for the murders is still under investigation.
