MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Audiences were recently treated to an exciting musical experience during Carpe Musicam!’s latest production, Top Secret!, hosted in Curro Mossel Bay’s school hall.
The production delivered an imaginative twist on classical and contemporary musical favourites.
The audience heard excerpts from “Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra, alongside timeless works by Ludwig van Beethoven.
A standout moment came with Carpe Musicam!’s rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen, a piece that showcased the ensemble’s creative versatility.
The group also performed their own unique and reimagined interpretation of “Für Elise”.
Known for their dynamic fusion of choir and orchestra, Carpe Musicam! introduced an electric guitarist into their ensemble for the very first time.
This addition brought a striking new sound, blending traditional orchestral richness with modern energy.

At the helm of each performance was conductor Norman Carless. Between the pieces, his humour and storytelling brought laughter to the hall, creating a relaxed and engaging atmosphere.
Behind the scenes, much of the evening’s success can be attributed to pianist Elsabe Barkhuizen, whose meticulous planning and dedication ensured that every detail came together flawlessly.
Audiences may look forward to the Carpe Musicam! Pops Band, who will be performaning at the Bartolomeu Dias Museum in Mossel Bay on 24 May.
In addition, the Carpe Musicam! Orchestra and Choir will return to the Curro School Hall on 12 July for another memorable performance.
