MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Municipality law enforcement officer, who was off-duty when he allegedly shot a man at The Point beachfront area in Mossel Bay on 24 January, has been released on bail.
The officer, Thabo Mabunda (37), who is facing a charge of attempted murder, appeared in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court for a formal bail application on Wednesday, 29 January.
It is alleged that Mabunda shot a 34-year-old man, following an alleged altercation at the beachfront at about 22:30 that evening.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his body and was taken to a nearby medical facility. It has been reported that the man is in a stable condition.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies previously told Mossel Bay Advertiser that Mossel Bay Police Station officers, who responded to the scene, confiscated a licensed 9mm firearm.
Mabunda has been released from custody on R5 000 bail with conditions. Some of the conditions include that he does not contact the victim or any of the state witnesses, or leave the Mossel Bay area.
The matter was postponed to 17 March for further investigation.
