MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A man was shot during an incident in Point Road, at The Point beachfront area in Mossel Bay last night.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said Mossel Bay Police Station officers arrested a 37-year-old suspect on an attempted murder charge after the shooting, which took place at about 22:30.
Spies said: "According to reports available at this stage, two men were involved in an altercation, when a shot was fired. The 34-year-old victim sustained a gunshot wound to the body and was taken to a medical facility nearby by ambulance.
"The 37-year-old man was later taken into custody on arrival at the Mossel Bay Police Station.
"He remains in police custody and is expected to make his first court appearance in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's court on Monday, 27 January."
Spies said police also confiscated a 9mm pistol, which is a licensed firearm.
Mossel Bay Advertiser had been informed by a source that it was allegedly a municipal law enforcement officer who was the alleged shooter in this incident and enquired to Mossel Bay Municipality about this.
The municipality responded, noting: "The Mossel Bay Municipality is aware of a shooting incident, allegedly involving an off-duty municipal official and a member of the public.
"The municipality has been informed that the suspect is in police custody and that a court appearance is scheduled for early next week."
