MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A Mossel Bay Municipality law enforcement officer appeared in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court today after he allegedly shot a man at The Point beachfront area in Mossel Bay on Friday night, 24 January.
The officer, Thabo Mabunda (37), was off duty at the time of the incident.
He appeared in court on a charge of attempted murder.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies previously told Mossel Bay Advertiser the shooting took place at about 22:30.
Spies said that, according to reports, two men were involved in an altercation, when a shot was fired. The 34-year-old victim sustained a gunshot wound to his body and was taken to a nearby medical facility.
The Advertiser has been reliably informed that the victim is stable.
Spies added that Mossel Bay Police Station officers, who responded to the scene, confiscated a licensed 9mm firearm.
On Saturday, 25 January, Mossel Bay Municipality confirmed to the Advertiser that it was aware of a shooting "allegedly involving an off-duty municipal official and a member of the public".
Further questions were sent to the municipality today, now that the officer has appeared in court and his name is known.
Mabunda is expected to appear in court again on Wednesday, 29 January, for a formal bail application.
