MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Station 15 is asking Dana Bay residents for help.
Over the past four nights, at different times, emergency flares have been fired across the sea from Dana Bay, although no vessels or people were found to be in danger.
Not only is it illegal to fire emergency flares unnecessarily, it puts unnecessary pressure on the NSRI's volunteers to ensure that no vessel or person is in distress.
The NSRI is a volunteer organisation that responds to vessels or individuals in emergencies.
It is a waste of its scarce resources and time to respond to hoax calls.
Any person with information on where the emergency flares originate should contact the NSRI's emergency number (082 990 5954) or André Fraser of the NSRI (082 990 5472).
The next life the NSRI saves might just be yours.
