MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Concerted efforts by police to curb the trafficking of illicit goods and drugs on highways of the Western Cape led to the confiscation of R700 000 worth of drugs and the arrest of two suspects, who appeared in court on Friday, 8 July.
This next court appearance is scheduled for 28 July.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Spies said that on Wednesday, 6 July, at about 11:20, police officers from the Mossel Bay Sea Border Unit responded to information received about a vehicle transporting drugs.
They spotted the vehicle travelling on the N2 highway near Mossel Bay. When the suspicious occupants spotted the police, they sped off and a vehicle chase ensued. The team brought the vehicle to a halt just outside Mossel Bay and proceeded with a search and found compressed dagga.
Police confiscated the drugs and arrested two occupants, aged 23 and 35, Spies said.
Western Cape police management commended the officers for the arrests.
The accused, Manyelo Manyelo (23), was released on R15 000 bail, with strict bail conditions, and the second accused, Kassim Sekibanga (35), was remanded in custody, according to Spies.
