A fleet of dinghies of various types rigged for the racing with Lasers being in the majority in the senior fleet of ten boats and the Tera comprising most of the junior fleet (7 boats).
In the first race the Finn of Dudley Isaac was hotly pursued by the Laser of John Marc Olivier from the start, but Dudley was able to use his bigger sail to pull ahead.
After nearly an hour's sailing, the Finn crossed the finish line first, ahead of John Marc, who was the leading Laser.
Behind the Lasers of Henry Paine and Malcolm Osborne were having their own race with Henry getting ahead to finish 3rd. Towards the end Thomas Lammers caught up with the leading bunch to finish 5th.
On handicap, the race win went to John Marc Olivier ahead of Dudley and Henry.
In the junior fleet the dice was once again between James Hellstrom and Georgou Divaris, both sailing the larger sailed Tera Pro. Also in the mix was Seth Young on a Laser 4.7. He was first to finish, but handicap rating gave the race win to Georgou with James 2nd. A bit behind Ashleigh and Danielle were having their own race as usual, with Danielle getting in ahead.
The second race proceeded in a similar manner, with the Finn establishing a big lead on the rest of the fleet.
John Marc also had a good lead, but Malcolm and Henry were able to close up before the finish.
Henry was in 3rd place during the race but Malcolm was able to get ahead to finish in this place ahead of Henry and Evelyn Osborne.
Dudley was able to finish sufficiently ahead in order to claim overall race win on handicap.
In the junior fleet James Hellstrom finished first, even ahead of the Laser, with Georgou second.
In the "girls race", this time it was Ashleigh who was able to finish in 3rd place on handicap.
Overall in the junior fleet Georgou and James tied on points for first place, but tie break gives the series win to James who wins the Coconut Monkey Trophy.
In the senior fleet, series win went to Dudley Isaac, who wins the Brass Monkey Trophy.
The George Lakes Yacht Club Opening Cruise takes place next Sunday at 14:00.
