Elfie Holden, commodore of the Mossel Bay Sailing Club and founder of the Skipper Foundation NPO in Mossel Bay, instructed the group of women and girls.
The Skipper Foundation teaches children how to sail.
A notice was placed in Mossel Bay Advertiser inviting women and girls to try sailing as part of an international drive by World Sailing.
There was "beautiful weather, with lovely winds" on the Saturday, Holden said, but no sailing took place on Sunday because the weather was not good enough.
The group practised on a small keel boat and two Skud 18 boats.
Holden said: "For all of them it was their first time sailing. They really loved it and most of them said they would like to come back and learn to sail. They found it really peaceful and therapeutic."
The group spent two hours on the water.
