MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The active community of Great Brak River and running clubs can look forward to the De Dekke Spar road race on Saturday, 2 February.
De Dekke Spar is the official and main sponsor for the event.
Gida de Swardt, owner of the De Dekke Spar, annually contributes greatly towards this officially timed ASWD event. Johan Viljoen, chairman of the Hartenbos Drawwers, commended the local traffic officials for their willingness and enthusiasm to assist in directing the traffic on the day.
"We urge motorists to be cautious and to be on the lookout for runners and marshals on the roads."
Hartenbos Drawwers launched a new 21.1km route which will replace the previous 42.2km. Runners can look forward to a steady climb from the bottom of Morrison Road up to Glentana, a race downhill and a finish at De Dekke Spar.
Local businesses Suiderkruis Security, Herbie Oosthuizen Attorneys, Seef Properties and Extreme Business Solutions will keep the runners hydrated at their assigned water points along the route. There will also be lucky draws for all athletes. Anyone can be a winner.

- Starting times: 21.1km (05.30), 10km (06.30) and 4km (06.45).

- Late entries: Friday, 1 February (16:00-19:30).
- No race day entries for 21.1km and 10km. Only registration.
- Fun run entries on race day at De Dekke Spar Great Brak River.
- For non-online entries athletes will have to pay an additional R20.
Prize giving
Athletes are responsible for collecting collect their own prize money or making an alternative written arrangement with the event organisers.
ASWD licensed athletes who forget their IPICO chip will have to pay R35.
