Woman strangled, boyfriend in court

MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - 31-year-old Phelo Moambani - the suspect in the murder of Thandeka Mashumi (also 31) - appeared in court today to apply for bail.

The bail hearing will take place tomorrow, Wednesday 26 August.

Community members, led by the Mossel Bay NGBV organisation based in KwaNonqaba, gathered in front of the court today. Their message was clear: "Say no to gender-based violence, stop killing women in Africa”.

KwaNonqaba police officers were called to a house in Sitele Street in KwaNonqaba on Sunday 23 August at approximately 03:00. Upon their arrival, they found Mashumi's body. She had been strangled.

Moambani, Mashumi's boyfriend, was also on the premises.

According to the police Moambani allegedly strangled Mashumi after an argument the previous evening.
