MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The five-day SAPS National Lawn Bowls Championships ended in a festive awards ceremony at the Mossel Bay Bowling Club last night, 22 August.
The championships, which were held in Mossel Bay for the first time in 15 years, saw the Western Cape team performing excellently and taking home multiple awards.
The team include two officers of the Mossel Bay Police Station, support head Captain Joanne Meyer and Constable Ynolan Isaacs, as well as Warrant Officer Nadine Ascaray, Warrant Officer Wayne Schmidt, Warrant Officer Fanie van Rooyen, senior administration clerk Sonja Slippers and Lieutenant Colonel Douw Herbst from George.
The team’s men placed third in the men’s fours category. Meyer and Schmidt received bronze for the mixed team category. Ascaray and Van Rooyen won the mixed pairs category and Slippers and Ascaray received silver medals for the ladies’ pairs category.
Meyer also received a gold medal for the singles category.
The Western Cape team shared the second place with Gauteng for the overall provincial winners.
