MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Six armed men opened fire on a shop owner and his friend during a robbery on Thursday, 6 August.
The incident took place at the Sunrise Minimarket in Mpetswa Street in JCC at 20:55, as the shop owner was locking up.
The robbers, wearing balaclavas and face masks, accosted the shop owner and his friend, who was there to offer the shop owner a lift home.
As the victims fled, the robbers fired several shots at them. No injuries were reported. The robbers fled with cash, two cellphones, two electricity vending machines and other items.
No description of the suspects is available and no arrests have been made. “The police urge the community to assist them in providing information regarding the incident,” says the spokesperson of the Da Gamaskop Police, Capt Wollie Fourie.
The investigating officer is Wo Yssel (044 606 2200).
Fourie also shared tips on what to do during armed robberies. "The likelihood of an armed robbery turning violent, can be effectively reduced by the behaviour of the victims," he said.

• Don't resist robbers or try to be a hero.
• Try to relax by regulating your breathing, taking long, slow deliberate breaths.
• Speak slowly.
• Don't make any sudden movements.
• Do not set off an alarm or siren.
• Don't look robbers directly in the face.
• Give robbers ample opportunity to leave.
