Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay is experiencing fewer flare-ups than last night, 7 January, and as of 22:35 this evening, 8 January, all running fire lines have been stopped.
The Mossel Bay Municipality said fires near Num Num Eco Estate in Aalwyndal, Sonskynvallei, Hartenbos Heuwels and Renosterbos have been stopped and there have been active mopping operations in affected areas.
Since the fire started on farmland next to the N2 near KwaNonqaba on 5 January, 23 square kilometres have burned.
The municipality said that no teams are standing down, that maximum resources have been deployed and the wind direction is being closely monitored.
It said no structure or property loss has occurred since 6 January, and no further injuries were reported today.
It added that bulldozers were used to help make fire breaks and additional resources have been dispatched, including over 13 bakkies with 1 000 litre tanks, refilling with grey water, additional water tankers and water from farmers' associations with resources.
There is an on-site Incident Command Post (ICP) located at the Mossel Bay Airfield, which has a refreshment area for those involved in the firefighting efforts.
