According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, the accident was a head-on collision involving three vehicles and took place near Blue Waters in the Dias Beach area before 06:00. It also resulted in a temporary road closure until about 09:00.
Myburgh had been the passenger in one of the vehicles, his family confirmed. The driver as well as the one of the second vehicle were taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the third vehicle was not harmed in the accident.
The Da Gamaskop Police registered a culpable homicide docket and said the cause of the accident forms part of an ongoing investigation.

“He was originally from the Lowveld, where he was a member of the Protrack Anti-poaching Unit. His favourite place was out in the wild or spending time with his family. When he walked into the room, he would light the entire place up. Our fondest memories include his wit and the way he made us all giggle.”
Although they are still grieving and have not yet set a date for his memorial, they know it will happen in a place he cherished. “We will hold a memorial for him in Kaapsehoop [near Mbombela], and we as a family will most likely scatter his ashes there. He loved going to the escarpment, so we will try and do it there.”
