Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mr South Africa final, in the form of a gala evening, was held at the Indaba Hotel in Fourways, Johannesburg.
Mossel Bay top 10 finalist, Deon Lensing, acquitted himself well at the event on Saturday. 10 December.
He was dapper, warm, friendly and confident on stage. He introduced himself as being from "iconic Mossel Bay on the Garden Route".
The question put to Deon was: "What can men learn from women in terms of regulating their emotions so that they do not become perpetrators of gender violence?"
His answer was that men should look inside themselves to find their inner worth. There were only 30 seconds from the beginning of the question to the end of the answer, so the finalists had to think of an answer quickly.
The Mr South Africa title was won by Fuad Williams, the first runner-up was Werner Koen and the second runner-up, Thabang Khatide.
'Fantastic, exhilarating'
Deon said: "It was fantastic, exhilarating, to arrive on the Thursday before the final. I didn't know what to expect, but I was ready because of all I'd put into the competition and how hard I had worked."
He said the contestants soon formed friendly groups, chatting away and bonding well.
"It was good to be on stage. I appreciated everyone's support so much. At heart I felt like a winner."
The Thursday until the Saturday were characterised by early mornings and late nights. They were so busy that there was little time for eating, Deon says.
The step counter on his watch averaged 14 000 steps per day. This is 11km to 12km and this distance was just around the venue, not going outside.
He said that only on Friday was there a little private time available to spend away from the venue.
Deon is a fitness instructor, an online marketing specialist and a pageant organiser. He is also a director of the NPO, the Anti-Bullying Academy.
