Now, for this year's contest, the 30 semi-finalists have two more "challenges" before the finalists are announced.
Deon has done so well in the challenges so far, that he looks to have a good chance of making it to the finals.
He has much experience with pageants, being an assistant to Crawlers & Crowns Model Academy owner Karen Gray, also a Mossel Bay local. Deon is experienced in speaking in public, as the secretary of the Anti-Bullying Academy. He has also done other motivational talks.
He says: "Being in the Mr SA top 30 is a great feeling."
One of the challenges so far has been to garner support from the business sector for the Mr SA brand, offering businesses advertising on the Mr SA platform and in turn, acting as an ambassador for them and promoting them on social media.
The semi-finalists also had to invite people to a high tea held on 27 August to mark Women's Month.
Deon says: "We are waiting in anticipation to hear what the next two challenges are."
He has a good track record, helping charities. Working for Crawlers & Crowns, he collected food donations for the SPCA, Oudtshoorn Dogs in Need, the Oudtshoorn animal pound and Project Blessing, a charity for animals started by Anton Siebert.
As part of his community work, he has assisted the StreetShowers charity and the Power Towers food and water collection for farmers in the Calitzdorp area.
To vote for Deon, SMS MRSA1 to 40439. It is R2 per vote. Free SMSes do not apply.
