MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A fire that broke out in an informal settlement in KwaNonqaba over the weekend has left 18 people without homes.
According to the Mossel Bay Municipality, its Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management services responded to an ongoing fire in an informal settlement near Sijaji Street just after 05:30 on Sunday 9 August.
“Upon arrival, firefighters found that multiple structures were already on the fire,” said the municipality.
“Firefighters used fire hoses from a major pumper to contain and extinguish the blaze. The fire was successfully brought under control and extinguished at approximately 08:20.”
It said the 18 people who were displaced are currently being accommodated by family members and friends.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
Members of the public who wish to assist the affected families are encouraged to donate household items, clothing, blankets and non-perishable food. These items can be dropped of at the KwaNonqaba Police Station.
