MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A firearm and ammunition stolen from a police vehicle in KwaNonqaba on Friday, 28 February, have been recovered.
The Mossel Bay Advertiser reported earlier in March, that a case of negligent loss of a firearm was investigated, after the 9mm Vector Z88 pistol and 15 rounds were taken from the vehicle in KwaNonqaba in Scholtz Street.
At the time, Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, said police had instituted a disciplinary investigation into the loss of the firearm that would be conducted concurrently with the criminal investigation.
The police officer also opened a case of theft out of a motor vehicle for further investigation, said Pojie.
According to KwaNonqaba Police spokesperson Sgt Kappie Kapp, the firearm and 15 rounds of ammunition were recovered from a premises in Asla Park.
The KwaNonqaba Visible Policing Unit, along with the crime intelligence unit, followed up information received from the community, which led to the successful retrieval of the firearm and ammunition.
"Unfortunately a male suspect fled the scene in Asla Park and is still at large. We thank the community for its cooperation," Sgt Kapp said.
