MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Phangela SWD Eagles hosted the Kenya Simbas in a pre-season friendly match at Van Riebeeck Stadium in Mossel Bay this week.
Both teams benefited from this outing as the Eagles are preparing for the Currie Cup First Division and the Simbas for the 2027 Rugby World Cup qualifiers.
In cold and windy conditions, both teams crossed the try line twice in what was a tightly contested first half.
The halftime score was 12 - 12.
The conditions certainly did not dampen the crowd's enthusiasm as both teams did all they could in the second half. The match ended in a draw, 17 - 17.
The try scorers for the Phangela SWD Eagles were Kirwan Cupido, Seth Haddad and Marquit September. Eric Zana converted one of the tries.
The day, which was organised by Mossel Bay Rugby Football Club, started with an opening match between Park and Diaz primary schools' U13 teams. Park won the match 25 - 0.
