MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The executive committee of the South African Waveski Association (SAWSA) congratulates participants who qualified to participate in the World Waveski Surfing Championships at Nahoon Reef in East London from 28 June until 7 July.
Nahoon Reef is a renowned surf break, known for its powerful and consistent waves.
The event will begin with registration, a flag parade and an opening ceremony at the East London Golf Club, offering competitors a warm "Buffalo City" welcome. The competition itself will commence on Saturday, 29 June.
The championships feature three major divisions: Open Men, Open Women and Juniors, ensuring a high level of intensity and skill on display. Other divisions are cadet (U16), juniors (17-20), seniors (21-34), masters (35-49), grand masters (50-59), legends (60-64) and grand legends (65+).

Nahoon Reef is a legendary spot for waveski surfing, with a long righthand point that resembles Sunset, Hawaii. It is located in the Nahoon Nature Reserve, a beautiful and natural setting. It has earned its place as one of the best waveski surfing destinations globally. Waveski surfers from around the world are drawn to the challenge and thrill offered by Nahoon Reef’s powerful and consistent waves.
Whether you’re a seasoned waveski veteran or a newcomer to the sport, the reef provides an unforgettable canvas for your surfing adventures. SAWSA is also hosting two smaller social competitions as a lead-up to the world championships, with 40 international riders converging in Jongensfontein on 16 and 17 June and 22 and 23 June in Jeffreys Bay in partnership with Western Province and Eastern Province respectively.
Entry to each competition will be R500 per person. The aim is to host international travellers and expose them to other coastal towns and surf.
