HOCKEY NEWS – Following on from the successful U19 edition, the Oakhill U13 Co-ed Hockey Festival was hosted by Oakhill School at the Oakhill Sports Campus (OSC) last weekend. A total of 17 boys and girls teams represent 10 different schools from the Western and Eastern Cape provinces.
Held from 20 to 22 April, the festival saw nearly 250 schoolchildren flock to the OSC for three days of scintillating and entertaining hockey.
With matches only lasting 30min - two halves of 15min - the action just never seemed to stop, and you can bet your house that the boys and girls absolutely played their little hearts out.
This made for some great hockey viewing and it wasn't hard to spot some future provincial (and maybe even national) hockey stars in the making.
They didn't have it easy though, as the weather was testy all weekend with plenty of rain falling on the OSC over the course of the three days.
Neveah Koch looks to clear the ball out of her defensive circle for Oakhill.
The U13 festival was the second in Oakhill's three-part series of hockey festivals this April.
The third and final event, the Oakhill U16 Co-ed Hockey Festival, will be held over four days this week from today, Thursday 27 April, to Sunday 30 April.
Collegiate had to play through some torrid weather on Thursday.
Some heavy rain on Thursday made for some tough playing conditions at the end of the day.
