MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Three surfers from Surf's Up surfing school in Mossel Bay did extremely well in the SA Longboard Championships held in Jeffreys Bay from 6 to 11 May.
U14 surfers Tyla Vermaak and Tyler Norris reached the semi-finals, in which they both attained third places.
Damon Smith, who performed remarkably by competing with the U18s when he is only 15 years old, achieved a third place in the quarterfinals.
The three surfers, who competed on Friday and Saturday, 9 and 10 May, had been scouted for the Eden team to take part in the nationals.
The owner of Surf's Up, Jannie Ras, who is also the children's coach, said: "These are extremely exciting results. This was their first major competition, so it is an unbelievable achievement.
"If they continue being goal oriented and committed, they will go far."
