MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Marlin Surf Lifesaving Club, based at Santos Beach in Mossel Bay, took part in the 2023 South African Lifesaving National Championships in Gqeberha from 30 March to 5 April in junior and senior lifesaver and nipper categories.
The team consisted of 12 lifesavers (juniors and seniors) and 28 nippers - the largest team ever assembled by the club for a competition.

The team fought tooth and nail against the strongest clubs in the country and achieved great success on club, team and individual levels.
In the lifesaving category, the club ended 14th and in the nipper category, 10th nationally.
These athletes achieved top 10 rankings in individual events:
- Rudi Boer – 8th Beach Flags, 6th Sprints Seniors
- Cole Josephs – 5th Beach Flags U19
- Joy Moses – 6th Beach Flags U15
- Lee Bruinders – 5th Beach Flags U15
- Zane Briesies – 3rd Long Run U15 (Bronze medal)
- Zack Briesies – 2nd Long Run, 9th Sprints U15 (Silver medal)
- Hamilton Julies – 7th Long Run U15
- Renaldo Meyer – 9th Long Run U15
- Runywen Olivier – 7th Long Run U14
- Joshua Veldsman – 9th Beach Flags, 6th Sprints U13
- Ayden Els – 4th Sprints U13
- Kwezi Mini – 3rd Beach Flags, 8th Sprints, 10th Long Run U12 (Bronze medal)
- Stantonio Karelse – 4th Sprints, 5th Long Run U12
- Reginald Flores – 5th Sprints U12
- Elih Cloete – 3rd Long Run, 7th Beach Flags U11 (Bronze medal)
- Ziayne Windvogel – 1st Sprints U11 (Gold medal)
- Jourdaine Moses – 4th Sprints U11
- Stephen Swigelaar – 7th Beach Flags, 7th Sprints U10
- Amir Samsoodien – 1st Sprints U9 (Gold medal)
- The U14 relay team (Cezar Twigg, Chadwin Levendal, Luke van Rensburg and Runywen Olivier) secured a 4th place, just missing out on a bronze medal.
- Amir Samsoodien was selected as the 9th best nipper overall.
