York and Mossel Bay competed well on a beautiful evening at the Quarry Turf. Some may have thought it was going to be a quaint meandering of players in one direction, but they were wrong and this was not to be.
The blend of divers, surfers, underwater hockey coaches, teachers, traffic officials, accountants, biologists, businessmen and simply lekka guys in this team, sharing the same mindset of the enjoyment of a good game, came out tops.
The goalkeeper, actually field players, played an impressive game. It shows distinct character when a field player stands up and says: "I am the keeper."
Great defence was shown by the ou toppies or rather, the more mature die-hard players. Some gazelle-like running by individuals resulted in a non-embarrassing finish to a great game of hockey.
Mossel Bay men's hockey is alive and well. Being part of it or part of the supporters is a well-spent hour or more of good, wholesome entertainment. The score was 13-1 to York.
The Mossel Bay team shines with great qualities and mostly a love of the game.
