SAFA Eden and MOBLFA made a call to clubs to participate in the structured SAFA body, and the clubs listened to this call and joined the leagues.
MOBLFA initially planned to have four divisions for the 2011/2012 season, but managed to have three divisions, namely u/12, u/14 and seniors, which all successfully participated in the league. MOBLA also welcomed the participation of Correctional Services FC and Mossel Bay United FC.
One of the most important goals of MOBLFA is to attract the community of Mossel Bay, from different backgrounds and races, to actively get involved in sports, and soccer in specific.
Soccer is a unifying sport - this was observed during the 2010 World Cup.
MOBFLA is thankful for the support that it received from the SAFA Eden president and SAFA NEC members, Mr Elvis Shishana, Mossel Bay Municipality, Colin Meyer from African Heating and Ted Harris from AD STUDIOS the main sponsor for the league and PETROSA soccer team for donating soccer equipment.
League winners
The winners of the different leagues are:
U/12: Young Stars FC
U/14: Young Stars FC
Seniors: Sea Birds FC
Sea Birds FC will participate in the SAB regional play-offs and MOBFLA wishes them all the best.
"Knowing the skilful and talented football players that are members of Seabirds FC, we know that stand a good chance to qualify to play in the SAB regional league for the coming 2012/2013 season. Presently, we have one team participating in the SAB regional league, Garden Route FC, and our goals is to gradually develop the football talent to have a minimum of four teams participating in the league within the next two years," says Anele Fundu.
Ladies
Garden Route FC's ladies team won the SASOL League play-offs earlier this month. Garden Route City Stars will be competing in the highest league for women in the country.
"This shows that we have the talent in our midst, all we have to do is support, educate and nurture the talent," Anele adds.
Garden Route Ladies made history by becoming the first team in SAFA Eden Region to qualify to participate in the SASOL provisional league.
The ladies need financial assistance from the Mossel Bay business sector, as they will be travelling to Cape Town to honour their league fixtures.
This team has also produced two Western Province players with one player, Joan de Wett, who has represented the SAFA national u/17 ladies team against Ghana's national u/17 team in Ghana earlier this year.
Mossel Bay LFA asks local businesses to support the Football Association, as well as all the clubs in the Mossel Bay LFA jurisdiction.
"Some of our challenges that clubs are facing are training equipment, playing kit, as well as assistance with transport to participate in the various league fixtures and also competitions."
