TOURISM TRAVEL REVIEW - The admirable talent of an artist is to bring imagination to life and turn dreams into reality.
Blissfully floating away to sleep over the ocean in a giant bubble sounds like something you would only experience in a dream, however, nestled on the edge of a cliff in Great Brak with endless sea views, renowned SA artist Ken Maloney has turned his dream of a luxury bubble tent into reality.
We were fortunate to sit down briefly with Ken to learn more about what inspired (and continues to inspire) Seeplaas. The role that art plays in not only the inception of Seeplaas, but right through its design language, is quite apparent. He passionately took us through the tale of his family’s relocation to the Southern Cape, and the journey taken to reach the current point in their story. While his wife, Zelda, was conducting art deliveries in the region, she stumbled upon a home in Hartenbos that she thought was suitable for the family, and urged Ken to travel down as soon as possible. During his trip, he saw an advertisement for the property that is now Seeplaas, and made the time to go and see it. As soon as he arrived, he realised the dilapidated property could be turned into the perfect base where he can work on his craft (creating exquisite 3D paintings) and eventually expand into a full-blown gallery (which is just a five-minute walk from the bubble tent).
Being the first Bubble tent in South Africa, it is as unique as unique could possibly get, but what really makes this getaway special is that it is embedded in the inspirational lives of a family thriving on their creative gifts.
